Each year the Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine recognizes the achievements of one Consultation-Liaison psychiatrist or internist by name a Donald Oken Fellow and inviting that person to participate in the Annual Meeting.
The Oken Fellow typically is someone who has never attended an SBSM Annual Meeting – a goal of this award is to introduce the Society to someone unfamiliar with SBSM and our community, and to nurture a relationship that benefits both the Fellow and the Society’s membership through the sharing of experiences and involvement with research – both clinical and basic.
The Award Includes:
- Complimentary registration to the Annual Meeting
- Itemized travel expenses to the Annual Meeting
- $1,000 honorarium
- The opportunity to participate in a meaningful way in the life of the meeting, and by extension, the Society
Criteria for Nominees:
- Senior leadership position in his or her field and able to influence other SBSM prospective members
- Preferably, not previously attended an SBSM meeting
- Involvement in clinical or basic research
- Effective teacher/leader to medical students, residents, and fellows
Additional Requirements:
- The recipient will be expected to attend the entire annual meeting
- The recipient will be expected to stay at the conference hotel
- The recipient will be required to participate in the meeting by presenting a paper, poster, or attending a workshop or roundtable lunch as appropriate
